DepartmentMedia and Communication

 

The Department of Meida and Communication is among the first departments at New Bulgarian University. On March, 11th 1991, the first four course education-qualification program in Bulgaria Public Relations launched at NBU, followed by the programs Producing in Mass Communications Media and Personified Audio-visual Journalism. During the academic year 1997/98 the graduates who got their Bachelor degree in these programs had the opportunity to continue their education in the Master program Management of Mass Communications and two year later – in the Master program Management of Public Relations . A doctoral program Mass Communications launched at the same time.


Since 1996 the Department has regularly issued a Year book of Meida and Communication Department in which scientific and research studies of the lecturers and PhD students are published, projects and exchange rate developments of students, specialized translations and the bachelors, masters and doctors who have graduated the current year, are presented. In 2006 Meida and Communication Department was the first at New Bulgarian University which published an electronic year book.

 

Since 1999 a Summer School on Public Relations has been annually organized and since 2006 – spring and autumn scientific conferences. The reports and debates from the Summer School and the conferences are published in collections or on the university electronic page. In 2004 a regular departmental seminar Knowledge for Practitioners and Journalists started.

 

The department offers Bachelor programs Public Relations and Journalism and Master ones Public Relations in Social networks and Social Media, Journalism 3.0 (on-line press, radio and television) and International Business Communications (in English) as well as a PhD program Mass Communications.
